Double Electric Blanket Homepage

Double electric blanket products are not all too common, however they are growing in popularity. An electric blanket is a blanket that incorporates integrated heating circuits directly within the blanket. It can be switched on and off using a remote control placed on your night table. They produce nice warm blankets and are great for pre-heating your bedding on those cold winter nights. Modern day electric blanket circuits are wired using very thin copper wires and operate at a low voltage, around 24 volts, which means they are as safe as possible. They look like the electric blanket pictured here but obviously the design of the bedding can vary as desired.

Electric blanket

The blanket above is of a single electric blanket. However this website is dedicated to double electric blanket products. They are growing in popularity probably because they are more energy efficient. So, it's quite logical that there is a large growing target market for double electric blankets.

Double electric blankets are seen as a seasonal product since they are used mainly in the winter time when the weather is at its coldest and people most appreciate a warm cozy bed. They are also useful as a bed warmer when a particular bed hasn't been slept in for a couple of weeks or more - it is recommended to periodically warm the bed to keep it fresh.

Safety Concerns

Safety officials strongly recommended that both single and double electric blanket products be used only when monitored, and that they are not kept on while someone is sleeping. It is also recommended that they only be used to warm a bed before someone goes to sleep.

While it is true that many people do keep them on while they are sleeping, this is has raised safety concerns since electric blankets can obviously got hot. There are particular concerns with models ten years old and more that are subject to years or use and  wear and tear that can degrade the electrical circuitry. In the United Kingdom, around 5,000 fires per year are caused by these faulty older models.

Double Electric Blanket Products in the Market

Whilst single electric blankets are much more popular, there is an increasing interest in double electric blankets. The average cost seems to be anything from $40 to $80 each. This is about inline with single blankets which cost around half as much.

For some reason electric blankets seem to be most popular in the United Kingdom ( there are many more double electric blankets in the UK compared to the United States and other countries), however as mentioned before, their popularity is rising in the United States and elsewhere.

Just as an aside, my father, who was born in New Castle, always complained that the UK was the coldest country he ever lived in. He always slept with an electric blanket.
